Shopping out west

My schedule freed up a bit during these past few days so I was able to check out a few cool clothing and accessory items.

First and foremost: If you are going to buy the best of the west in shirt wear, you need to get yourself a Dally O shirt. Disclaimer—I don’t get paid to say that! I just really like their product. Check it out at:  http://www.dallyo.com.

Also I happened to stop in at Cactus Threads in Red Lodge, Montana. Barbara Wells runs this snazzy operation. Her products can be found at: http://www.cactusthreads.com. What caught my eye were the Diamond Bar T briefcases that she had on display. I really like my Montana Silver Smiths leather briefcase, but the Diamond Bar T briefcases are quite impressive and if I had a couple extra dollars, I would have to get one for a backup briefcase! Check out their goods at: www.diamondbartdesigns.com.

Home sweet home (but which one?)

South Dakota was beautiful, but the view of the country back in Montana was as incredible. I arrived at the ranch just in time to see dad in action combining wheat!

American Horse League meeting

American Horse League Meeting, Newell, SD

American Horse League Meeting, Newell, SD

I had the privilege of joining Chase Adams, Jeff Smeenk and some of the leadership of the American Horse League at their meeting in Newell, South Dakota. This group has just started and is now doing the hard (and needed) work of educating both the public and policymakers about the need for proper and humane horse treatment and management policies. For more information, call Chase Adams at 605-347-1730 or visit their website.

At this meeting, I also met another good country boy and agriculture spokesman, Troy Hadrick. Check out all the good work that Troy and his wife Stacy do at: www.advocatesforag.com or their blog www.advocatesforag.blogspot.com.

Faith Livestock Market

Today was another great day in the Dakotas! Faith Livestock had its Monday cattle and sheep sale. Scott and Gary Vance were kind enough to give me some time to speak from the auction block. It was a good opportunity to give an update on USCA’s activities in Washington, D.C. Auctioneers Doug Dietterle and Seth Weishaar were auctioneering at this market too—you know I really need to figure out a way to “pickup” pool with these guys to the sale barns!

In the audience, I had a good time catching up with several folks including Eddie Miller, Chase Adams, and Tom Miller. Again the “rough” crowds who attend these auctions makes a guy glad he always does this run a couple times a year! In all seriousness, I can’t say enough good things about the folks here in the Dakotas. USCA is lucky to have their support and will work hard to keep it!

What’s in store for this week?

I zipped out of the Dakotas for a quick weekend at the ranch in Hathaway! Saturday evening found me stacking hay. The ranch is looking pretty good for the first of August. It felt good to do some “real” work for once!

Now, I am headed back to South Dakota for meetings. I will be speaking at the Faith Livestock Market at 12:30 CDT on Monday August 3rd. On Tuesday, August 4th, I will join Chase Adams for his presentation on the status of the American Horse League. The meeting starts at 11:00 am CDT in Newell, South Dakota. If you would like more info, call me at 202-870-3867 or Chase Adams at 605-347-1730.
